ACVBM 2021 Annual Conference

The 2021 ACVBM Annual Conference was held virtually on October 9th, 2021 and featured Richard Mandelbaum, RH (AHG) as our speaker. If you missed this amazing event, you can purchase recordings of Richard's lectures HERE.

Topic Details:
Phytochemistry, Gaia, and Herbalism: a four-part lecture series by Richard Mandelbaum
Reductionist mainstream culture tends to separate and segregate what are actually only differing lenses on the same, single reality. Within herbal medicine, for instance, we often separate tradition from science, or spirituality from science, when these are in fact not only compatible but complementary to each other.  In this lecture series we will weave together the often disconnected threads of phytochemistry (plant chemistry, pharmacology, and herbal medicine), zoopharmacognosy (how animals in the wild use botanical remedies), and Gaia theory (the scientific theory that all life on Earth acts collectively akin to a single organism).

About Richard Mandelbaum, RH (AHG)
Richard Mandelbaum RH has been practicing as an herbalist since 1998, with a background in both Chinese and Western herbal traditions and a passion for our native, local plants. He is co-founder and co-director of the ArborVitae School of Traditional Herbalism in New York City, and is on the faculty at David Winston’s Center for Herbal Studies with a focus on botany and phytochemistry.  Richard was a member of the Council (board of directors) of the American Herbalists Guild from 2012-2018, serving as Secretary and as chair of the Committee for Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity.  Richard embraces herbalism as an affirmation of our biome and planet, and is also active in issues related to sustainability, social justice, and fair trade.
